Ani Ugyen Dolma

Ani Ugyen Dolma is a senior nun in her 50s, originally from Shugseb Nunnery in Tibet. She was among the very first group of 22 nuns who arrived in India as refugees in 1990 and established Shugseb Nunnery in exile. Since then, she has remained continuously involved in the growth and development of the nunnery.

In 2004, Ani Ugyen Dolma completed her Lopenma degree, becoming part of the first-ever group of nuns who were conferred the Lopenma degree at Shugseb Nunnery. Those eight nuns, marked the historic beginning of advanced Buddhist scholastic education for nuns at Shugseb.

From 2010 to 2017, she served as the Director of Shugseb Nunnery, taking responsibility for the administration, discipline, and overall management of the community. After the nunnery invited one of the Khenpo teachers who had been sent by Namdroling Monastery to teach higher Buddhist education in nunnery, to take responsibility for the overall management of the nunnery Ani Ugyen Dolma was able to focus mainly on teaching and academic guidance of the younger nuns. Since then she has been teaching Buddhist scriptures and philosophy, guiding the junior nuns in their studies and supporting examination preparation and study programs.

Ani Ugyen Dolma was one of the first Shugseb nuns to be conferred the title of Khenmo title during Losar 2026. She is now in spiritual retreat.
